My Manic Blogging Phase
Posted in Family Things, Garden, House Construction on September 19, 2009 | 1 Comment »
I can go for months without blogging a thing and then WHAMMO! I’ll go through a little spurt of overbloggage.
There’s been quite a bit of progress on the property but most of it doesn’t make for good pics. Including today’s wellhouse work. Steve and Cody got a lot done this week and, after finding a [...]
Watermelon Harvest

Something has decided it likes our much-neglected melon patch so Steve & the kids just picked what was left.
Guess what we’re having for snacktime today?
Happy double birthday, Isaac and Charlie!

Each kid, for their birthday, gets to choose a cake/pie/whatever that I make, dinner out at a restaurant of their choice, and a special activity of their choice. This year, Isaac and Charlie both chose to do the Mud Run again in Little Rock at the end of October. That’s a pretty tall order since [...]
Duke vs. Rock, The Sequel
Posted in Critters, Family Things, Garden on June 18, 2009 | 1 Comment »
That same rock looked at Duke wrong again. This time when Duke headbutted it, he broke it into three pieces. Steve had to rescue the poor rocks, digging pieces out of Duke’s skin.
Isn’t this how Bruce Banner looked right before he started turning green??
Just to show Duke does things other than headbutt rocks. He also [...]
Wild plums, water buffalo, and Duke vs. rock

Duke headbutted a rock because it looked at him wrong. Don’t ever look at Duke wrong. It makes him very, very cranky.
Bath time at the Speeds!
This evening, we headed over to a friend’s place to pick wild plums. Yum! Got 4-5 gallons, I think? Time to make some jam & jelly!
Nellie picked some yarrow there, [...]
State of the Garden Address

First, the obligatory baby pics:
On her last visit, Grandma Kaye brought a car-(non)walker-bouncy contraption. Josie’s getting pretty good at sitting upright these days, so I crammed her into it the other day to see what she thought of it.
Hmmm… Assessing the layout.
Hey! They actually left the keys in it for me!
Wait a minute… I can’t [...]
Babies, babies, everywhere!

Aren’t they cute when they’re sleeping?
And aren’t they loud when they’re not?
Here we go with the sheep again now that Steve’s not on the road. Mama, twin babies, and a young ram.
And another batch of chicks. There are 15 Dominiques, 13 Rhode Island Reds, and 2 Araucanas, assuming I counted accurately. We’re aiming to end [...]
Mom’s Happy Place, The Sequel

The new greenhouse is up and running! Still needs a few finishing touches, as well as the shelves. I’ll get pics later after it’s completely done but, for now, it’s doing great. It’s 20′ wide (E to W) and 13′ deep (S to N), south-facing, attached to the house. On the east and west sides [...]
Nellie’s birthday (and catch-up again)

Nellie turned 3 on May 17th!
A visit from Grandma and Grandpa Chrisman a month or so ago.
Goofy trampoline dwellers. (Hm, the next two turned out sideways and I’m too lazy to fix it. Pretend they’re fixed.)
The search for intelligent, extraterrestrial life continues.
It’s not found here in Redneckia. (This trailer was put in a few miles [...]
